Request a free “Safe Ride” from one location on the residential campus to another.

Safe Ride provides a secure and reliable means of transit from one location to another on campus. It ensures the safety of students who feel endangered or unsafe during night hours. Student operators staff Safe Ride, which is available from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., seven days a week, when classes are in session during fall, winter, and spring quarters. There may be exceptions for holidays and finals week.

This program is not intended to replace existing transportation services such as the METRO Bus and Campus Shuttles. It is also not meant to discourage individuals from walking in groups.

Program Guidelines

  • Limit of 5 passengers per ride
  • Rides must be requested the same day
  • No rides to or from off-campus locations
  • Intoxicated and/or disorderly students will not be transported
  • Food and alcohol are NOT allowed in the shuttle
  • Safe Ride reserves the right to refuse transport
  • Safe Ride may provide walking escorts in lieu of using a vehicle

If you have mobility needs (i.e. wheelchair users), contact the Disability Van Service directly at (831) 459-2829.

Safe Ride booking is now available through the flexigo app. This app-based booking allows more flexible pick-up times, real-time ride tracking, push notifications, and more. You can still book your rides on demand or in advance on the same day.

How to use flexigo

  1. Download the flexigo app (iOSAndroid) or use the web portal to sign up and register your account.
  2. Register using your UCSC email address (you must do this to see Safe Ride options).
  3. You will be directed to authenticate using your Cruz ID and gold password.
  4. Select the “Safe Ride” Module.
  5. Select your nearest pick-up and drop-off locations from the list or by tapping on the stop on the map.
  6. Confirm your locations and select your pick-up time (Now or Later).
  7. Review and approve your request.
    • Please note: Due to the way the flexigo app optimizes ride scheduling, your actual pick-up time may not match the time you requested. Please double-check your pick-up time when confirming your request.
  8. Your reservation will be submitted and you will receive a push notification with confirmation.
  9. You can also opt to receive text message notifications with ride updates.
  10. Once you’re picked up, follow your ride on the app similar to Uber or Lyft.
